iPhone 6S shutting off at 30% battery

iPhone 6S, iOS 9.3.4/5 (problem on both).

A couple weeks ago my phone started shutting itself off at around 30-40% battery life. Then the charge screen shows if I immediately try to turn it on again. If I wait 15 minutes and turn it on it says it still has ~30% battery remaining and it will normally stay on all the way down to 1-2% battery.

I ran it all the way down, let it sit for a couple hours, then charged it all the way to 100% while the phone was off. The problem still persists.

I also did a clean restore (set up as new phone).

there is already a big and long discussion about the battery draing issues, which includes also your problem, see it at:

Re: iOS 10 battery drain / overheating

the solution, for the momment, which helps you is to reset the Network Settings, really just the Network Settings, as follows:

- Go to the "Settings" App on your home screen

- Select "General" on the Settings

- Scroll down to the bottom of the "General" menu. Select the "Reset" tab. The Reset screen will open.

- Select the "Reset Network Settings" button. A warning message will appears. Tap the "Reset Network Settings" button of the warning prompt to execute the reset.

You will have again battery life, my is lasting for 25h ±1h with about 3,5h of use.

You can monitor the performance in your Battery tab in the "Settings" App.

for the beta version,

- go to https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/

- I don't remember if you need to create a user or is it enough to use the same credentials you have for iCloud account. I did it long time ago myself and I am using the same credentials as my iCloud account.

- then look to install the profile certificate provided on the web-site, once done it

- go to your settings - general - and look for updates

the rest iPhone will do it by himself.

I don't find any bugs on the 10.1, and I run all the Apps as they should, so I don't any risk on use it, and the advantage is that it will install a App "Feedback" which allow us to report back to Apple.

Hi

There is an iPhone 6s Program for Unexpected Shutdown Issues.

The program covers iPhone 6s devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015.

Apple advises that, if you have experienced the issue, you should visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider to have your iPhone examined and the serial number checked to confirm your eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge.

ay12--- you have a completely different issue that, I am told, can be fixed simply by recalibration of your battery display.

  • Charge to 100%
  • Run the battery down until the phone shuts off
  • If it shuts off above 1% charge it for a minute only, then continue running the battery down. Repeat until it makes it to 1% before shutting off
  • Charge it to 100% again

This is happening to me too. Common circumstance seems to be camera use. Phone shuts off at 18%, 25%, 33% 50%, or any other percentage. Will not come back unless plugged in. Phone returns with roughly the same percentage battery as when it shut off.

Very frustrating---but now I'm almost certain this has something to do with the camera. My wife is also experiencing the issue. I have 6s and she has 5s. Issue persists in both iOS 9 and iOS10. I use "Camera+" app and she uses standard "Camera" app.

Apple refuses to acknowledge an issue with the iOS losing it's connection with the battery as a result of using the camera, but this issue is becoming more and more clear to me.

Thanks, Lawrence. I did exactly that (battery test at the Apple Store last week and also over the phone with a senior advisor, plus clean restore, etc.). Battery looks good. Now Apple is acknowledging a problem with the iOS (both 9 and 10) connecting with the battery under certain conditions. A senior advisor was instructed by the engineering team to collect my phone logs (crash logs, etc.) so they can work on this serious issue. They have already collected logs from many others as well, and many others are complaining about this same exact issue.

My case number is ********. Senior Advisor ********* strongly encouraged me to edit or reply to my above post and ask people with the same issue to call Apple, speak with a senior advisor, and provide crash logs for the engineering team.

I will be asking for a new phone this week to see if even slightly degraded batteries are too far gone to use the camera. If this is the case (my phone is heavily used but less than a year old), Apple will be inundated with this issue soon.

Hello,

i have this problem too. Iphone shut down when 9- 23 % always differently.

Apple support said that battery is ok after 3 times diagnostic.

Im angry, because phone for 850 euro doing this s....

It cant believe that my battery is dead!

I still have warranty on my Iphone 6s, i dont want dismantle my phone but want change it, if i not find why is this happening

I second this method. Something similar worked for me. The only thing i did differently was when the phone shut off at 37% I left it off for 15 minutes then turned it back on. It stayed on for many more hours then finally shut off at 0%. I charged it with the phone off for around 7 hours. I've been good ever since. I would repeated the process if it doesnt work the first time.

The first time I had this problem was last Saturday while playing back some songs from the Music App.

The phone just shut down at 33% battery and asked for the charger, which I happened to have with me.

The phone support told me the phone was perfect fine and that the battery was ok.

She suggested to delete all songs and stream then once more, which I did.

the device behaved properly till today when it shut down while using Reminders which was called upon by Siri...

22% battery left.

A few mins later I was able to turn it back on, it had more battery than before and it is still running now...

it was not doing this with iOS 9.

never.

also, the device is noticeably slower and laggy after the update to iOS 10, and it is a new iPhone 6S, one year old (exactly today, in time for the warranty to expire ahahah!)

You can read more about my issue above in this thread.

==========

After more than 30 hours of diagnostic exercises by phone with multiple senior advisors at Apple, it was finally determined that my battery was prematurely failing. Diagnostics showed my battery in the "green," but still somewhat worn. Apparently some apps (like camera apps, etc.) overly tax these phone batteries, so even a phone determined to have an "in the green" battery can be susceptible to strange "shut down" behavior at 12%, 18%, 23%, or in my case, even 50%.

Therefore, I was advised to have my phone (6s) replaced. I did, and all is perfectly fine now until THIS battery fails a few months from now while still "in the green."

I'll bet Apple hopes warranties will end prior to these batteries crapping out. So sad.

Boneslasher,

You wrote, "The phone support told me the phone was perfect fine and that the battery was ok."

Apple will honor their warranty even if slightly beyond. Get your phone replaced. It is not iOS 10. It's just that your phone battery is slightly more worn now. Apparently batteries still "in the green" can still be too warn out to sustain battery-taxing apps such as cameras, music, etc. (So maybe it IS the new iOS.) In any case, you need a new phone. Go get it before you fall "too far" out of your warranty period.
